Bhubaneswar: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena on Saturday issued a stern directive prohibiting the bursting of high‑decibel fire‑crackers after 9 pm on Diwali night.
The order came ahead of the festival of lights, urging residents to limit celebrations to ‘green’ crackers only and to refrain from any loud‑noise explosives after the stipulated time.
As per the DCP’s directive, those caught selling crackers illegally, and motorists driving under the influence will be booked under relevant legal provisions.
Authorities have warned that anyone caught driving drunk during the festival will have their vehicle seized and could be arrested. The move aims to curb accidents and keep celebrations safe.
That apart, all police stations have been instructed to keep patrol vans on high alert and intensify night‑time vigilance. DCP Meena appealed to citizens to cooperate for a safe, peaceful and eco‑friendly Diwali.
