Bhubaneswar: The severe cyclonic storm Montha has weakened into a cyclonic storm over coastal Andhra Pradesh after making landfall near Narasapur late Tuesday night.
According to India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ is likely to move north-northwestwards across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and weaken into a deep depression during the next 3 hours and into a depression during the subsequent 6 hours. The cyclone has been moving at a speed of 15 kmph and is expected to continue its north-northwestward trajectory.
As of 0530 hrs IST, the cyclone was centered near latitude 17.0°N & longitude 81.3°E, approximately 80 km northwest of Narsapur, Andhra Pradesh, 100 km west of Kakinada, 90 km north of Machilipatnam, 230 km west-southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 460 km southwest of Gopalpur, Odisha.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious and follow IMD’s instructions. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected to continue in the some parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
