Naveen Patnaik Felicitates Odisha Players Of World Cup-Winning Blind Women’s Cricket Team

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and current Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday met the four Odia players of the Indian visually impaired women’s cricket team that recently clinched the inaugural International Blind Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup in Colombo.

In a post on X, Patnaik congratulated the players for their extraordinary achievement, calling their World Cup triumph a moment of great national pride. “I met the four Odia players of the world-conquering Indian visually impaired women’s cricket T20 team and conveyed my heartfelt congratulations. By winning the International Blind Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup held in Colombo, they have enhanced the pride of the country. I wished all of them a bright future,” he wrote.

The four Odisha players—Phula Soren (Balasore), Parbati Marndi, Yamuna Rani Tudu, and Basanti Hansda (all from Mayurbhanj)—were part of the victorious squad that made history with their stellar performance on the global stage.

Patnaik praised their determination, resilience, and sporting spirit, noting that their achievement would inspire countless young sportspersons across Odisha and the country.
