Bhubaneswar: Police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district have cracked down on an illegal gambling operation, arresting eight persons and seizing cash amounting to ₹7.70 lakh during a late-night raid conducted on Wednesday.
Acting on specific inputs, a team from Bargaon police station raided a gambling den operating in the area and caught the accused red-handed while engaging in unlawful betting activities. During the operation, police recovered ₹7,70,050 in cash, one vehicle, gambling-related materials, and 10 mobile phones believed to have been used for coordinating the illegal activity.
The arrested individuals have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain the scale of the racket and identify any additional persons involved.
Police officials said the action reflects the district administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards illegal gambling and other unlawful activities. Strict enforcement drives will continue to curb such offences and maintain public order, they added.
