Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated 57 new sub-registration offices across 17 districts, completing the rollout of sub-registration facilities in all 317 tehsils of the state.
Speaking at the inauguration, Majhi said the expansion was aimed at making land-related services more accessible and citizen-friendly. Earlier, people were forced to travel to district headquarters for registration and mutation work, he said, adding that the government had consciously decided to reverse this system. “People will not come to the government; the government will go to the people. By making sub-registration offices operational in all tehsils, we have achieved a milestone,” the Chief Minister said.
Majhi said the move would enable people to carry out mutation immediately after land registration, helping to eliminate middlemen and prevent outside interference in the process. He added that the reform would significantly reduce delays and harassment faced by citizens.
The Chief Minister also launched the ‘Ama Sathi’ WhatsApp chatbot to provide major revenue services digitally. Through the platform, citizens can apply for services including mutation, change of agricultural land type, domicile certificate, caste certificate, income certificate, tribal certificate, OBC certificate, SEBC certificate and legal heir certificate, among others. The services can be accessed by sending a message on WhatsApp to 9437292000.
Majhi lauded Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari for initiating wide-ranging reforms in the department and urged officials to consider legal protection for sharecroppers. He said sharecroppers currently lack legal rights and are often deprived of various government benefits, suggesting that a law be enacted to protect the interests of both sharecroppers and landowners.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said arrangements are being made to allow citizens to lodge complaints through WhatsApp if they face difficulties at sub-registration offices, adding that the department is committed to ensuring smooth and transparent service delivery.
