Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to bring five government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the newly introduced Utkarsh ITI Yojana, aimed at modernising technical education infrastructure and strengthening skill development across the state.

The selected ITIs are located at Rourkela, Bolangir, Ambaguda, Puri, and Rajkanika, officials said.

Under the scheme, the infrastructure of these institutes will be comprehensively upgraded to improve training facilities and align vocational education with industry requirements. The initiative seeks to prioritise youth skill development and enhance employability through modern, industry-oriented technical training.

According to a notification issued by the Skill Development and Technical Education Department, the state government has approved the implementation of the Utkarsh ITI Yojana (Scheme for Upgradation of ITIs as Zonal ITIs) to strengthen the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem in Odisha.

“This scheme aims to upgrade Government Industrial Training Institutes by strengthening the TVET ecosystem, under which five Government ITIs will be upgraded as Utkarsh ITIs,” the notification stated.

As part of the upgradation, the Utkarsh ITIs will be equipped with improved physical infrastructure, modern training equipment, smart classrooms, digital learning systems, and industry-relevant trades aligned with current and emerging skill requirements.

The department said the scheme aims to ensure equitable access to quality vocational education across regions, strengthen industry alignment, and develop a skilled workforce capable of responding to rapid technological advancements and evolving labour market demands.
