Women’s Safety In Question As Bhubaneswar Sees 298 Cases In 2024-25

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar leads in crimes against women with 298 cases, according to the Odisha State Commission for Women’s 2024-25 annual report.

The Odisha State Commission for Women released its 2024-25 annual report on crimes against women at a special function held on the occasion of the commission’s 33rd foundation day. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida was the chief guest, while ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Sampad Chandra Swain attended as guests, along with commission chairperson Shovana Mohanty.

On this occasion, the Commission has released its annual report on crimes against women for 2024-25, revealing a total of 2,064 cases registered during the financial year. Of these, 1,879 cases have been resolved by the commission.

Going by the report, domestic violence tops the list with 852 cases, followed by dowry-related harassment and abandonment (675 cases), and violation of women’s rights (182 cases). Other notable cases include indecent behaviour (137), dowry deaths (12), suspicious deaths (14), rape (24), and cheating (30).

It is learnt from the report that Bhubaneswar leads in crimes against women with 298 cases, followed by Cuttack (214), Khordha (210), Puri (181), Ganjam (120), Bhadrak (113), and Jajpur (103).
