Bhubaneswar: A large number of residents from different Assembly constituencies of Kendrapara district, people from the Niali area in Cuttack district, and members of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh on Monday evening met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the State Guest House in Bhubaneswar to express their gratitude for key announcements made in the 2026–27 State Budget.

The delegations thanked the Chief Minister for provisions aimed at balanced regional development and welfare of various sections of society. Among the major announcements welcomed by the public were the establishment of a new university in Kendrapara district, the upgradation of the Phulanakhara–Niali–Madhab road into a four-lane corridor, and the withdrawal of professional tax with effect from April 1.

People present at the felicitation programme said the 2026–27 Budget reflects the aspirations of the common people and would accelerate Odisha’s overall development trajectory.

Mahakalapada MLA Durga Prasanna Nayak stated that since Independence, higher education infrastructure in Kendrapara had not received adequate attention. He said the decision to establish a university in the district has fulfilled a long-standing demand and renewed hope among residents. He also welcomed the proposed beautification of the Baladevjieu Temple and the plan to set up a shipbuilding yard in Kendrapara, noting that these initiatives would create substantial employment opportunities for local youth.

Niali MLA Chhabi Mallick said the four-laning of the Phulanakhara–Niali–Madhab road would help reduce road accidents and significantly improve transportation connectivity in the region.

A representative of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh also expressed appreciation for the decision to exempt professional tax, stating that the move would particularly benefit contractual employees and workers across sectors.

It may be recalled that a similar show of support was witnessed a day earlier in Jagatsinghpur district, where thousands of people felicitated the Chief Minister for announcing a university and an engineering college in the district. On Monday, around 1,000 people from Kendrapara, Niali, and members of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh attended the felicitation programme at the State Guest House.
