Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has prepared a micro-plan to tackle the impending cyclone and set up 24-hour control rooms at the state and district levels, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Pujari said rainfall was expected across all 30 districts of the state, with heavy precipitation likely in some areas. He said Odisha would be affected by the weather system even if it made landfall in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Malkangiri is expected to be among the worst-affected districts, the minister said, adding that the state government had stepped up preparedness measures to deal with the situation.
Control rooms have been established at both the state and district levels to monitor the situation round the clock. Ministers and senior officials have also reached the field to oversee preparedness and ensure that necessary measures are taken wherever required, he said.
The minister also expressed concern over the possibility of a rise in the water level of the Mahanadi due to rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
“Proper water management is being given priority. Discussions have been held with Chhattisgarh to prevent a possible flood situation,” Pujari said.
The state government is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and coordinating with the concerned authorities to minimise the potential impact of the cyclone and associated rainfall, he added.
