Paddy Procurement

Bhubaneswar: The paddy procurement drive for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025–26 has gathered strong momentum across all 30 districts of Odisha, with the State achieving 80 per cent of its overall procurement target so far. More than 13 districts have already crossed 90 per cent of their respective targets, reflecting robust field-level implementation and improved farmer participation.

Seven districts—Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nuapada, Sambalpur and Subarnapur—have recorded exceptional performance, each achieving over 95 per cent of their procurement targets. Subarnapur has emerged as the frontrunner in the State, attaining 98 per cent of its target with procurement touching 3,76,556 quintals of paddy.

Districts such as Boudh, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsuguda and Rayagada have also surpassed the 90 per cent mark, further strengthening the overall progress of the procurement exercise.

Several districts—including Angul, Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Sambalpur and Subarnapur—have reported significant increases in procurement volumes compared to the previous Kharif season.

Notably, there has also been a marked rise in farmer participation. Districts such as Angul, Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Subarnapur have witnessed higher numbers of farmers selling their produce through the mandis. As on February 24, 2026, around 65,000 more farmers have sold their paddy compared to the corresponding period last year.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests, the Odisha Government has ensured timely procurement, close monitoring and transparent payment mechanisms. By guaranteeing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and preventing distress sales, the procurement system aims to provide farmers with financial security and stable market support.

As of date, the State Government has disbursed Rs 17,329.2 crore to 13,04,938 farmers towards MSP payments and input assistance.

To address farmers’ concerns, the Government has further strengthened its grievance redressal system. Farmers can seek assistance or clarification related to procurement and payments through the toll-free helpline number 1967.

The steady progress in procurement and enhanced farmer participation underscore the State’s sustained efforts to ensure efficient market intervention and improved agricultural support mechanisms.
