Bhubaneswar: The Sambalpur District Court received a new bomb threat late Sunday night, prompting an urgent security alert and a large-scale search across the premises.
Senior police officers quickly arrived at the court complex after the threat was reported. Around 11:00 pm, a specialized team—including the bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog unit, and cyber police personnel—reached the site and launched a detailed inspection. They used sniffer dogs and metal detectors to check entry points, interior areas, equipment rooms, and other sections of the complex, continuing the operation well into the night.
Once the search concluded with no explosives or suspicious items found, authorities ramped up security measures as a preventive step. These heightened arrangements are expected to stay in effect until further orders.
Given the pattern of previous bomb threats targeting courts in Odisha—including recent incidents at Sambalpur and other districts—police suspect this latest alert may be part of a similar sequence, possibly a hoax. Senior officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), and Inspectors-in-Charge from local stations, were on-site to oversee the verification and response.
Details about how the threat was received (such as via email, call, or other means) or its exact origin have not been publicly disclosed yet, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
Court activities are anticipated to proceed normally on Monday, though with significantly bolstered security protocols in place to ensure safety.
