Bhadrak: In a major breakthrough, Bhadrak Town police on Monday busted an inter-district dacoit gang involved in a string of property crimes and arrested four of its members.
The prime accused has been identified as Daitari Das, alias Daya, a resident of Derabish in Kendrapara district.
According to Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rout, the arrests came after a detailed probe into recent burglaries in Bhadrak town. “We have recovered 1 kg of gold ornaments, 4 kg of silver ornaments, fake vehicle number plates, and other incriminating items from the accused,” he said.
The SP added that thefts and lootings had been on the rise in Bhadrak over the past few months. Taking the matter seriously, a special team was formed under the leadership of the Town IIC. During the investigation, Daitari, who was staying in Bhadrak on rent, came under the scanner. He has prior cases of theft and murder registered against him.
After interrogating Daitari, police identified three other accomplices from Kendrapara, who were later arrested. Two additional members from Jajpur remain absconding. Searches of their residences yielded over 1 kg of gold, more than 4 kg of silver, seven mobile phones, and multiple vehicle number plates. Police suspect that the gang may have used these plates to commit crimes outside the state.
The four arrested accused are scheduled to be produced in court today and the investigation is ongoing, the SP added.
