1763 Classrooms In Primary Schools In Odisha Lying In Dilapidated State: SME Minister

Bhubaneswar: A total of 1763 classrooms in primary schools are in a dilapidated state across Odisha, Minister of School and Mass Education, Nityananda Gond, informed the Assembly.

The Minister’s response came in reply to a query raised by MLA Souvic Biswal, seeking information on the number of classrooms in primary school buildings in a dilapidated state across different blocks and districts.

According to the Minister, the districts with the highest number of dilapidated classrooms in primary schools are are Sambalpur (175), Mayurbhanj (122), Sonepur (107), Cuttack (104), Kalahandi (101), Ganjam (100), Balasore (95), Keonjhar (94) and Kendrapara (90).

The Minister provided a district-wise breakdown of the numbers, highlighting the need for urgent attention to these schools.

The responsibility for reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of these schools has been assigned to the Housing and Urban Development Department for urban areas and the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department for rural areas.

The district-wise breakdown of dilapidated primary schools is as follows:

  • Angul: 71
  • Balasore: 95
  • Bargarh: 61
  • Bhadrak: 30
  • Balangir: 83
  • Boudh: 21
  • Cuttack: 104
  • Deogarh: 25
  • Dhenkanal: 48
  • Gajapati: 21
  • Ganjam: 100
  • Jagatsinghpur: 19
  • Jajpur: 70
  • Jharsuguda: 3
  • Kalahandi: 101
  • Kandhamal: 3
  • Kendrapara: 90
  • Keonjhar: 94
  • Khordha: 20
  • Koraput: 38
  • Malkangiri: 22
  • Mayurbhanj: 122
  • Nabarangapur: 21
  • Nayagarh: 24
  • Nuapada: 75
  • Puri: 64
  • Rayagada: 32
