Bhubaneswar: Odisha is reeling under severe heat as temperatures continue to soar across the state. On Thursday, Titilagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Paralakhemundi at 39.0 degrees Celsius and Boudh at 39.3 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as many as 30 places in Odisha registered maximum day temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius. Interior and western districts of the state experienced the most intense heat.

The IMD has forecasted a further rise in maximum temperatures by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during the next 4 to 5 days, with no large change expected thereafter over most districts of Odisha. This rise is likely to push day temperatures closer to or beyond 40 degrees Celsius in several areas.

For Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a partly cloudy sky with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26 degrees Celsius.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has warned that the ongoing spell of rising temperatures may intensify heatwave-like conditions in the coming days. People, especially outdoor workers, children, and senior citizens, have been advised to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun between 11 am and 4 pm.
