Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) died under suspicious circumstances at Nilagiri Sub-Jail in Balasore district on Sunday, triggering a police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Srikant Nayak of Oupada area in Balasore district. He was lodged in jail in connection with a murder case.
According to reports, Nayak developed sudden health complications after having lunch in the afternoon. Jail authorities immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
However, doctors declared him dead on arrival at the health facility.
Following the incident, police reached the hospital, took possession of the body, and sent it for postmortem examination. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances of the death.
