Bhubaneswar: Women empowerment is a national imperative and essential for inclusive development, said Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Sunday. He stated that a society which respects and nurtures women progresses with strength and dignity.

The Governor made these remarks while attending as the chief guest at the ‘Nari Shakti: Odia Asmita’ programme, a celebration of women empowerment and excellence, organised by The Times of India here.

Describing the event as timely and meaningful, the Governor said it honoured the contribution of women in shaping Odisha’s cultural, social, and economic identity. He added that women are the first educators of family values and the silent architects of a compassionate and progressive society.

Highlighting the changing role of women, the Governor said they are excelling across sectors including governance, education, health, science and technology, entrepreneurship, sports, arts, and the armed forces. He noted that modern Indian women are confident, capable, and increasingly taking leadership roles.

The Governor attributed this transformation to progressive policies and visionary leadership at both the state and central levels. He also emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on women empowerment, stating that inclusive development is possible only when women actively participate in economic, social, and decision-making processes.

Referring to the Women’s Reservation Act as a historic milestone, the Governor said it would enhance women’s representation in governance and strengthen democracy.

He further observed that Odia Asmita is deeply rooted in the state’s history, with women playing a significant role in preserving and promoting it. Women-led development, he said, will be crucial in building a developed Odisha.
