Bhadrak: Police intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle loaded with a huge quantity of country liquor on National Highway No. 16 in Bhadrak, preventing its smuggling into the area.
Acting on specific intelligence, police received information that a Bolero carrying country-made liquor was heading from Anandpur towards Ichchapur. When the vehicle spotted the chasing police team, the driver attempted to flee at high speed on the highway.
Anticipating the escape, another team of Bhadrak Town Police quickly set up a roadblock by stopping vehicles and temporarily blocking the highway. The Bolero soon got stuck in the resulting traffic jam, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.
However, alert police personnel pursued and successfully apprehended the driver.
Upon thorough inspection of the Bolero, police seized approximately 1200 litres of country liquor.The vehicle has been impounded, and the arrested driver is being interrogated to uncover the full smuggling network, including suppliers and intended destinations. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Odisha Excise Act.
