Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police sportspersons delivered an impressive performance at the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster (Kayaking, Canoeing and Rowing) Championship 2025–26, clinching a total of nine medals, including two silver and seven bronze, in Tehri, Uttarakhand.
The team’s strong showing was led by its women athletes, who excelled in rowing and canoeing events. Ritu Kaudi of Sundergarh and Sonalika Das of UPD Cuttack secured a silver each in the 500-metre rowing event and went on to add bronze medals in the 2000-metre category, emerging as the standout performers for the state.
Adding to the tally, Sachima Kerketta of Sundergarh bagged a bronze medal in the canoeing C-1 200-metre event. In the team event, the quartet of Sanjukta Dungdung, Reshma Lakra, Rachel Lakra and Sumitra Mallick clinched a bronze in the rowing Coxless Four 500-metre category.
The medal winners met Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack on Monday. Congratulating the athletes, the DGP praised their dedication and sportsmanship, stating that their achievements would inspire more personnel to take up sports and bring further recognition to the force.
Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar was also present on the occasion and encouraged the players. The championship was held from April 8 to 12 and saw participation from police teams across the country.
