Bhubaneswar: In view of the prevailing severe heatwave conditions across Odisha, the Collector of Jajpur district has announced a four-day holiday for all government and private schools as well as anganwadi centres in the district.
According to the official order, educational institutions and anganwadi centres will remain closed from Wednesday, April 22 to Saturday, April 25, 2026. The decision has been taken to protect the health and safety of students, children, teachers, and staff from the scorching heat and associated health risks.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heatwave and hot & humid conditions in several parts of the state, including Jajpur district. Daytime temperatures have been soaring, making it difficult and risky for children to attend school.
District officials urged parents and guardians to ensure that children stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, keep themselves hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun. The administration also advised schools to reschedule any pending examinations or important activities after the holiday period, if required.
This move by the Jajpur Collector comes in line with similar decisions taken by several other districts in Odisha, where district administration have declared holidays or early closures to safeguard young students amid the early and intense summer heat-wave.
