Baripada: A missing school teacher from Mayurbhanj district was rescued after four days from near the Balasore railway station, police said on Tuesday.
The teacher, identified as Jyotsnarani Sahoo, who works at Dhenkinejia Upper Primary School, had been missing since April 18 while on census duty. According to police, she had initially travelled from Baripada to Balasore by train after leaving her duty location.
Based on CCTV footage, investigators traced her movement from the Baripada railway station, where she was seen boarding a train. Acting on the leads, a special police team was formed under the supervision of SDPO Prabhat Kumar Mallick to locate her.
The team tracked her to Balasore, where she had reportedly been staying at the station premises for three days. Police sources said she was spotted when she stepped out of the passenger waiting hall to fetch water, following which the team rescued her and brought her back to Baripada.
Preliminary inquiry suggests that the teacher left due to stress related to census work. She is currently being questioned by Baripada Sadar police. After completion of the inquiry, she will be handed over to her family, officials said.
Further investigation is underway.
