Nabarangapur: Headmaster of a Sevashram school in Tentulikhunti area of Nabarangapur district has been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged sexual misconduct of a Class VII student.
According to report, the accused, Sukant Kumar Sarangi, who was already suspended by the district administration following the complaint, was produced before the POCSO court, where his bail application was rejected and he was subsequently sent to judicial custody.
The incident came to the fore after the Class VII girl student from the Sevashram school lodged a complaint at the Nabarangapur police station alleging inappropriate behaviour by the headmaster.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and other provisions at Tentulikhunti Police Station.
The incident is said to have occurred on the night of April 15. Police recorded the victim’s statement, arranged for her medical examination, and produced her before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Her statement was also recorded under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in court. Nabarangapur SDPO Krushna Chandra Bhatra confirmed that after the headmaster was produced in the POCSO court, his bail application was rejected, and he has been sent to jail.
