Bhubaneswar: In a suspected child trafficking incident, around 15 minor boys and girls were rescued in Malkangiri district after Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials intercepted a bus during a routine check on Sunday night.
As per reports, the children were reportedly being taken to another state on the pretext of attending a summer course and shooting-related activities.
Acting on a specific tip-off, CWC officials intercepted bus named Sai Krishna near the Malkangiri police station and carried out a detailed verification. Upon checking, several minors were found inside the vehicle and were immediately rescued. Initial questioning indicated that the group was being transported to Vijayawada, which raised strong suspicions about the real purpose of the journey.
According to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the operation was triggered after a complaint was received at the child helpline. The children were brought down safely, and the police were immediately informed. The minors were then taken to the police station for further inquiry and protection.
This timely intervention has prevented the children from being moved out of the state under doubtful circumstances.
