Heatwave Sweeps Odisha; Balangir Sizzles At 43.2°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heat conditions on Wednesday, with several places recording significantly high daytime temperatures, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Balangir emerged as the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 43.2°C.

As per the IMD data, Boudh registered 42.6°C, while Angul, Talcher, and Titlagarh recorded 42.5°C each. Jharsuguda reported 42.4°C, followed by Sonepur at 42.2°C. Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna, and Nuapada recorded 42.0°C each. Rourkela experienced 41.2°C, while Dhenkanal recorded 41.0°C.

Nayagarh reported a maximum temperature of 40.8°C. Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Malkangiri recorded 40.6°C each, while Hirakud registered 39.8°C. Paralakhemundi and Deogarh recorded 39.6°C and 39.0°C respectively.

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 38.7°C. Keonjhar, Koraput, and Phulbani reported 38.2°C each, while Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur stood at 38.0°C each. Rayagada recorded 37.4°C, and Chandbali, Daringibadi, and Khordha registered 37.0°C each.

Relatively lower temperatures were observed in coastal and some northern districts. Jajpur recorded 36.8°C, Baripada 36.6°C, and Balasore and Kendrapada 36.4°C each. Jagatsinghpur registered 36.0°C, while Paradip recorded 33.2°C. Puri, Chatrapur, and Gopalpur remained comparatively cooler at 32.6°C, 32.2°C, and 30.9°C respectively.

The IMD has indicated continued hot and humid conditions in several parts of the state, advising residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related illness.
