Bhubaneswar: Over 400 students received appointment letters during a campus placement drive held at Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar, under the ‘Campus to Career’ programme on Wednesday.
Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain distributed the appointment letters and said that employment marks the beginning of a new phase of learning. He said skill development in Odisha is helping students become industry-ready and competitive in the job market.
The students, who completed training in various trades, secured placements through campus recruitment in over 32 reputed companies, including Tata Power, JSW, Paytm, Yazaki and MedPlus. Among the selected candidates are 175 male and 234 female students. Paytm offered the highest annual package of Rs 3.95 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the achievement reflects the growing strength of skill development initiatives in the state. He stressed that the focus of technical education is not just employability but also building confidence and capability to perform in competitive work environments.
As part of the event, the ‘Waste to Wealth’ Skill Park was inaugurated on the campus. Developed using scrap materials, discarded equipment and waste from laboratories and training units, the park aims to promote sustainable practices. Swain said the initiative would help strengthen awareness of environmental protection and promote “green skills” among students.
The Minister also visited various sections of the campus and interacted with students and faculty.
On the occasion, he released a book titled ‘Nari Vandana: Empowering Narishakti’, published by the institute. The book documents the success of 168 female students who secured placements under the ‘Sudakshya’ scheme. He congratulated the students and encouraged others to take advantage of the initiative.
The programme was attended by Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education Department Bhupendra Singh Poonia, SCTE&VT Secretary Swapna Kumar Mishra, Government Polytechnic Principal Rajat Panigrahi, along with faculty members and students.
