Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested a bank official in connection with the alleged embezzlement of over ₹1 crore in government funds in Malkangiri district.
The accused, identified as Sudhansu Khora, was serving as Branch Manager of the Koraput Central Co-Operative Bank at Malkangiri. He has been accused of misappropriating ₹1,08,75,000 linked to the recovery of crop loan amounts deposited by farmers under five Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS) in the district.
According to Vigilance officials, the alleged embezzlement pertains to government funds collected from loanee farmers towards repayment of crop loans, which were not properly accounted for and were instead siphoned off.
In this connection, the anti-corruption agency has registered two separate cases at Koraput Vigilance Police Station — Case No. 4 and Case No. 5 dated May 4, 2026 — under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Sections 316(5) and 344 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2024.
Khora was taken into custody following preliminary investigation and will be forwarded to the competent court, officials said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the full extent of the misappropriation and identify any possible accomplices.
