Bhubaneswar: The Jajpur Municipal Administration has launched a massive drive against unhygienic food vendors across the urban areas. All dahibara shops and other street food vendors, and fast food centres have been ordered to remain closed for the next seven days.

The stringent action comes in the wake of a major food poisoning incident in the Dasarathpur area, where more than 90 people fell seriously ill after consuming contaminated dahibara and fast food.

A special team led by Chief Health Officer Dr Pradeep Khuntia conducted raids in several localities including Kusuma, Medical Square, and Jodikua. Food samples have been collected from various outlets for laboratory testing to ascertain the cause of the contamination. The municipal administration has appealed to citizens to consume boiled water and maintain high standards of hygiene to prevent further spread of infection.

It may be recalled that over 90 people suffered from severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach ailments after eating dahibara in the Dasarathpur area. Several victims were admitted to local medical facilities, while those in critical condition were shifted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital for better treatment.

The administration has warned of strict action against vendors found guilty of selling substandard and unhygienic food items.
