Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that the process for formation of new NDA government in the state will formally begin on May 10 with the election of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party leader, while the swearing-in ceremony of the new Council of Ministers will be held on May 12 in Guwahati.

Addressing reporters here, Chief Minister Sarma added that the BJP Legislature Party meeting has been scheduled for May 10 at 10 a.m., where the leader of the party in the state Assembly will be elected.

He said that immediately after the BJP Legislature Party meeting, a joint meeting of the NDA legislators would be held at 11 a.m. to elect the leader of the alliance.

“The BJP Legislature Party meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on May 10. The leader of the BJP Legislature Party will be elected there. At 11 a.m., a joint NDA meeting will be held and the NDA leader will be elected,” Chief Minister Sarma added.

According to the Chief Minister, the newly elected NDA leader, along with alliance legislators, will meet the Governor at 12 noon on the same day and formally stake claim to form the government in Assam.

“At 12 p.m., the NDA delegation will meet the Governor and submit the claim to form the government. Once the Governor grants permission, the process of government formation will begin immediately,” he added.

Chief Minister Sarma also said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Assam would be organised on May 12 at 11 a.m. and is expected to witness the presence of several high-profile dignitaries from across the country.

He added that Chief Ministers from 20 states have been invited to attend the ceremony.

Apart from political leaders, several industrialists, Vaishnavite religious heads and Satradhikars have also been invited.

The Chief Minister said BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad’s booth committee presidents from across Assam would participate in the programme, along with elected representatives of Gaon Panchayats.

The ceremony is expected to be held on a grand scale, reflecting the NDA’s return to power in the state.
