Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to experience blistering heatwave conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures rising steeply throughout the day. Jharsuguda topped the chart by recording a scorching 41°C at 11:30 am.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sambalpur and Hirakud also registered a high of 40°C each, while the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 37.6°C. Rourkela reported 37°C, followed by Balasore and Chandabali at 35°C each.
The western districts of Odisha are bearing the maximum brunt of the intense heat, with temperatures crossing the 40-degree mark in several places. The meteorological department has indicated that such above-normal temperatures are likely to persist over the next few days in many parts of the state.
People have been advised to avoid venturing out in the sun between 11 am and 4 pm, keep themselves hydrated and take necessary precautions to guard against heat-related illnesses.
