Bhubaneswar: A first-year PhD student of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) was found dead in her hostel room on Monday under mysterious circumstances at Jatni in Khordha district.
The deceased has been identified as Shreya Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
According to preliminary information, Shreya was found lying unconscious on her bed by fellow students. When she failed to wake up for a prolonged period, her worried colleagues alerted the hostel and institute authorities.
Upon being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. The body was later sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation. Officers are examining all possible angles, including the possibility of unnatural death.
