Cuttack: A 14-year-old boy went missing after being swept away by the strong current of the Mahanadi River while bathing with friends at Ayatpur under the Kandarpur police station limits in Cuttack district on Tuesday.
The missing boy has been identified as Somanath Sethi, a resident of Taradipal village under Biridi police station limits.
According to fire service officials, a drowning call was received by the Chauliaganj Fire Station, following which a rescue team rushed to the spot and launched a search operation from around 3 pm.
Despite several hours of search efforts by the fire services personnel and police, the boy could not be traced till late evening.
Officials said the rescue operation was suspended after nightfall and will resume at 6.30 am on Wednesday.
Police have started an investigation into the incident.
