Bhubaneswar: In a vibrant celebration marking 90 glorious years of Akashvani, a spirited Walkathon was organised by Akashvani in Cuttack today, bringing together hundreds of listeners, employees, presenters, anchors and retired employees in a grand display of unity, wellness and public spirit.
Flagging off the Walkathon as Chief Guest, Justice Savitri Ratho of the High Court of Orissa underlined that physical fitness has emerged as one of the foremost challenges of modern times. Reflecting on her deep personal bond with Akashvani, she said the programmes broadcast by the public service broadcaster had profoundly influenced and shaped her life since childhood.
Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra of the High Court of Orissa, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, said he has remained an ardent listener of Akashvani for over four decades. Congratulating all participants on the momentous occasion, he lauded Akashvani for organising the Walkathon as part of its landmark 90th anniversary celebrations.
Commissioner of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, who attended as Guest of Honour, exuded confidence that Akashvani, after completing nine remarkable decades of service to the nation, would continue to uphold the aspirations and expectations of the people in the years to come.
In his welcome address, V.M Ratna Prasad, Head of Office of Akashvani Cuttack, highlighted the credibility and distinct identity of Akashvani. Itishree Singh Rathaur , News Editor at Akashvani Cuttack moderated the programme while Sanjulata Nayak from the Engineering Department coordinated the event with support from various departments of Akashvani Cuttack.
The Walkathon which started from Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium traversed various parts of the city, spreading the message of fitness, togetherness and public awareness. The walkathon witnessed more than 400 participants.
