Bhubaneswar: Six persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a youth in a hit-and-run incident in Bhubaneswar. Police suspect that the case may be linked to personal rivalry, possibly involving a triangular love angle.
The incident occurred late Friday night near ATM Chhak in the Niladri Vihar area when a motorcycle carrying three youths was allegedly hit by a Thar vehicle. One of the youths died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena on Saturday said the deceased was a resident of the Kaipadar area in Khurda district. He confirmed that six accused persons have been arrested and will be forwarded to court.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute between two groups. Police suspect that the altercation could be linked to a triangular love affair, though this angle has not yet been conclusively established.
“It appears that after an argument, the two groups chased each other, which led to the fatal incident,” the DCP said while briefing the media.
Police said the three youths were on their way to a lassi shop when an argument broke out involving the accused group, the deceased and his associates, and the shop owner. During the escalation, a speeding Thar vehicle allegedly rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
Following the collision, one youth died on the spot, while the two others were shifted to a hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized by police.
A case of murder has been registered at Chandrasekharpur police station based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and establish the role of all accused persons.
