Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Cyber Police have arrested two persons from Punjab for allegedly creating a fake Instagram profile of a minor girl and uploading obscene photographs and videos through the account.
The accused have been identified as Birbal alias Birbal Kewat (21) and Prem Kumar Singh (40), both residents of Jalandhar in Punjab. Acting on a complaint, the cyber police launched an investigation and traced the accused to Punjab before apprehending them.
According to police, the duo allegedly created a fake Instagram account in the name of the minor girl and used it to circulate objectionable content, causing harassment and distress to the victim.
The accused have been produced before a court, while further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain the full extent of their involvement and identify any possible accomplices.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said the district police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens on digital platforms and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in cyber crimes, particularly offences targeting women and children.
Police have urged citizens to report incidents of online harassment, identity theft, and misuse of social media accounts at the earliest to facilitate prompt action.
