New Delhi: Leaders of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which is currently being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Wednesday assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty in the Malviya Nagar fire incident, which claimed 21 lives. Moreover, MCD’s Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma stressed that action will be taken within a week of the investigation report.

Speaking to IANS, MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said: “When the investigation report comes, we will take action within a week. Strict action will definitely be taken.”

“On the ground, we have seen so many people who have been burnt; they are all admitted to the hospital. We will ensure that such an incident does not happen again. Only after an investigation can we say anything further,” she added.

Echoing similar view, MCD’s Leader of the House Jay Bhagwan Yadav, said: “Such officials should be removed from service. Suspension is not a solution. Strict action must be taken.”

“Twenty-one lives have been lost. Whoever is found responsible will face action. I assure that the government will take strict action against those found guilty,” he told IANS.

Meanwhile, Mayor Pravesh Wahi expressed distress over the human lives lost in the fire tragedy.

He said: “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who have died in this incident, and I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

However, Wahi said that it has not yet been ascertained why or how the fire started.

“An investigation is underway. All possible efforts for assistance are being provided. The Prime Minister has also announced compensation for the victims. We have issued strict instructions that any negligence will not be tolerated,” he told IANS.

He added that a serious inspection will be carried out by officials to ensure that such an incident does not get repeated.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have confirmed that of the 21 who lost their lives in a massive blaze that broke out at the multi-storied Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning,17 are foreign nationals.
