Bargarh: A man was rescued alive from a narrow well inside a nursery at Samalaipadar village under Bijepur block of Bargarh district on Thursday, four days after he was allegedly assaulted and thrown into the well by a group of miscreants.
According to the survivor, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 3 PM when five persons allegedly assaulted him severely. Believing him to be dead, the accused reportedly dumped him into the well and fled the scene.
The man managed to survive inside the well for nearly four days without food or water despite being in an extremely weakened condition.
The incident came to light on Thursday when a local resident, who had gone to collect firewood near the nursery, heard cries for help coming from the well. He immediately informed other villagers, who rushed to the spot and alerted the police and fire services.
A joint rescue effort involving villagers and emergency personnel was launched, following which the man was pulled out of the well and shifted to the Bijepur Community Health Centre for medical treatment.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are examining the survivor’s allegations regarding the assault and attempted murder. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused persons, officials said.
Further details are awaited.
