Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday distributed smartphones to more than 72,000 Anganwadi workers as part of a major digital initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots childcare services in the state.
The programme was held in Bhubaneswar to mark two years of the state government in office, where the Chief Minister also handed over devices to 2,802 supervisors and 338 block coordinators. The initiative is expected to improve service delivery and enable real-time digital monitoring of childcare and nutrition programmes at the field level.
The distribution of smartphones will help streamline data collection, enhance transparency, and improve coordination among frontline workers engaged in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme.
On the occasion, Majhi also laid the foundation stone for a new rest facility named ‘Janashraya’ at Unit-II in Bhubaneswar. He further launched several infrastructure projects for the capital city as part of the government’s second anniversary celebrations.
Among the major announcements was the proposed 20-storey Janashraya Bhavan on Janpath, which will provide safe and affordable short-term accommodation for people visiting Bhubaneswar from different parts of the state.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 874 crore, will have facilities to accommodate around 2,000 people with modern amenities.
The state government also unveiled a series of urban development initiatives aimed at improving public infrastructure and civic services in the capital city as part of the anniversary programme.
