Bolangir: Police have arrested four persons, including the boyfriend of a woman, in connection with an alleged gang rape in the Patnagarh rural area of Bolangir district and forwarded them to court, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the woman lodged a written complaint at Patnagarh police station alleging that she was gang-raped by her boyfriend and three of his associates.
The complainant stated that she had gone to meet her boyfriend on Sunday night. During the meeting, the boyfriend, along with three others, allegedly took her to another location and sexually assaulted her.
After the incident, the woman informed her family members and subsequently approached Patnagarh police station to file a complaint.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case (No. 163/2026) and launched an investigation. During the course of the probe, police arrested four accused persons identified as Mahesh Sabar, Baichandra Bariha, Umakant Dila and Ajay Mirdha, all residents of Pandamunda village under Patnagarh police station limits.
Police said the accused were questioned after their arrest and allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.
The four accused have been produced before a local court, while further investigation into the case is underway, police added.
