Bhubaneswar: Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti will arrive in Odisha on Tuesday on a two-day visit to review the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, officials said.
As part of his visit, Bharti will hold detailed discussions with District Collectors and Electoral Registration Officers from all districts to assess the status of the voter list revision exercise and chalk out the future course of action.
According to the official schedule, a high-level review meeting will be held in Bhubaneswar on June 16. During the meeting, the Deputy Election Commissioner will conduct a comprehensive assessment of district-wise progress under the SIR programme and provide necessary guidance to officials to ensure preparation of a transparent, accurate and error-free electoral roll.
On June 17, Bharti is scheduled to visit Ganjam district, where he will review the implementation of the revision process at the field level. He will also hold separate meetings with local election officials and examine reports on the progress of the exercise in the district.
The Special Intensive Revision programme is aimed at preparing a clean and updated voter list by identifying and rectifying discrepancies in electoral rolls.
Officials said the visit assumes significance as the state has reported substantial progress in the revision exercise. Preparations for the Deputy Election Commissioner’s visit have reached the final stage at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha.
