Sundargarh: Two truck drivers were burnt alive after the trailers they were riding collided head-on and caught fire on National Highway 10 in Sundargarh district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near Kaintara under the Bhasma police station limits. According to preliminary information, a trailer travelling from Jharsuguda towards Sundargarh lost control, crossed the road divider, and rammed into an oncoming trailer heading from Sundargarh to Jharsuguda.
The impact caused the diesel tank of one of the trailers to rupture, triggering a massive fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles. Within minutes, both trailers were completely gutted.
Fire services and police rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control. However, both drivers were trapped inside and charred to death on the spot. Their bodies were charred beyond recognition. The identities of the two drivers are yet to be established.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Police have registered a case and are probing for more details.
