Bhubaneswar: The office of the Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly has sought registration of an FIR against two Assistant Engineers (AEs) for allegedly forging the signature of the Deputy Speaker and using fabricated official documents to secure transfers.
According to a complaint lodged with the Inspector-in-Charge of Capital Police Station by Niranjan Kumar Sha, Private Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, the accused officials—Monalisa Behera, Assistant Engineer of Banspal Block, and Laxman Hembram, Assistant Engineer of Harichandanpur Block—allegedly created and used forged documents bearing the purported signature of the Deputy Speaker and the official D.O. pad of his office.
The complaint alleged that the forged documents were submitted before the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department in an attempt to obtain transfers to Bargaon Block and Sadar Block in Sundargarh district.
The Deputy Speaker’s office stated that the documents in question were neither issued nor authorized by the office and described the matter as a serious breach involving forgery of official records and misuse of public office.
The complaint further alleged offences including fabrication and reproduction of forged documents, use of forged documents as genuine, cheating, impersonation, criminal conspiracy, unauthorized use of official stationery, violation of provisions of the Information Technology Act, and misconduct by government servants.
Seeking immediate police intervention, the Deputy Speaker’s office requested registration of an FIR and appropriate legal action against the accused officials in accordance with the law.
Police were yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
