Jeypore: The Central University of Odisha (CUO) is planning to establish a Bamboo Resource and Development Centre in collaboration with Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Gujarat, to promote sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurship among tribal communities in Koraput district.
As part of the initiative, a delegation from CUO recently visited NAU’s Bamboo Resource Centre to study advanced techniques in bamboo cultivation, nursery management, and value-addition technologies. The visit aimed to understand best practices that can be adopted for strengthening bamboo-based livelihood opportunities in Odisha.
According to university officials, both institutions have agreed in principle to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate joint research, training programmes, and extension activities focused on bamboo development and related enterprises.
CUO Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.C. Panda said the proposed centre would play a significant role in generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal communities and strengthening bamboo-based entrepreneurship in the region. He added that the collaboration is expected to bring technical expertise and innovation to enhance bamboo production and value addition in Koraput, which has a strong tribal presence.
