Nabarangpur: A 13-year-old boy died after being bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping at his house in Nabarangpur district, family members said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Dumuripadar village under Palia Panchayat in Jharigaon block. The deceased was identified as Sameer Santa, son of Shashi Santa.
According to reports, Sameer had gone to sleep on a floor mat after dinner on Tuesday night when a krait snake allegedly bit him on his right ear. He woke up screaming and informed his family members that something had bitten him.
The family immediately checked the sleeping area and found a krait snake hidden in the mat. They managed to capture the reptile in a box and rushed the boy to the Papadahandi Community Health Centre in an ambulance.
As his condition failed to improve after primary treatment, doctors referred him to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital for advanced care. However, despite medical intervention, Sameer succumbed to the snakebite while undergoing treatment at around noon on Wednesday.
