Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty surface winds over the next three hours.
According to the Nowcast Warning issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar at 4:30 PM IST, thunderstorm activity with lightning and wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Khurda, Puri, Nuapada, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts.
The weather office advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert and closely monitor weather conditions for any further deterioration. People have been urged to move to safer locations and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes and strong winds.
The IMD categorised the alert as a Yellow Warning, indicating the need for people to “be aware” of potentially adverse weather conditions and exercise caution during the forecast period.
The Meteorological Centre said the warning would remain valid for the next three hours from the time of issuance.
