Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued Orange and Yellow warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and heat wave conditions in several districts of Odisha for June 22.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, an Orange Warning has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts.
The weather agency has also forecast heat wave and warm night conditions at isolated places in Sambalpur district on Monday.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also likely to occur at isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Deogarh districts.
In addition, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Rayagada and Koraput districts. Heat wave conditions are expected to prevail in isolated areas of Jharsuguda district, while hot and humid weather is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts.
The IMD has advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and heat-related illnesses.
