Bhubaneswar: Five undertrial prisoners lodged in Jharpada Special Jail were rushed to hospital after falling ill on Tuesday, with three of them admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Capital Hospital in critical condition.
According to officials, the prisoners complained of sudden illness, prompting immediate medical intervention. They were shifted to the hospital for urgent treatment.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) visited the ailing prisoners at the Capital Hospital to take stock of the situation and inquire about their well-being.
The exact cause of the illness remains unclear.
Jail Superintendent stated that the matter is being thoroughly investigated. However, preliminary suspicion points towards possible food poisoning.
A doctors’ team is monitoring the condition of the prisoners closely. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
