Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested a fake IAS officer for posing as a District Sub Collector and defrauding traders across the city. The accused has been identified as Barada Sudhir from Visakhapatnam.
He allegedly used a fake ID card to purchase luxury goods, stay in star hotels, and rent premium cars while producing forged online transaction receipts to avoid payments.
According to police, Sudhir has multiple fraud cases registered against him in several districts and was previously jailed for similar crimes. He was out on bail when he committed the latest offences. Local traders and shopkeepers grew suspicious of his activities after repeated incidents.
On Tuesday, he allegedly purchased spectacles from a shop in the Saheed Nagar area and refused to pay. When confronted, he threatened the shop owner by impersonating an IAS officer.
Suspecting foul play, the shop owner, with the help of others, detained him and handed him over to Saheed Nagar Police. During verification, police confirmed he was not an officer and was using a forged identity.
Police said Sudhir was earlier arrested in a fraud case and released on bail. The Commissionerate Police is now coordinating with Visakhapatnam Police to verify his criminal antecedents.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
