Fire Guts 15 Shops In Bhubaneswar’s Uni-2 Market, No Casualties Reported

Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the Uni-2 Market Building in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning, gutting around 15 garment shops. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The fire was reported around 6 a.m. and spread rapidly through the interconnected shops, which were reportedly stocked with highly combustible materials, including silk garments. The blaze quickly intensified before fire services personnel could bring it under control.

According to officials, five fire tenders were deployed to the spot to douse the flames. After nearly four hours of continuous operation, the fire was finally brought under control, preventing it from spreading to adjacent commercial units.

“Along with extinguishing the fire, our priority was to prevent it from spreading to adjoining shops. Since most of the shops were locked, firefighters used hydraulic spread cutters to force open the shutters before beginning operations,” said Assistant Fire Officer Manoj Kumar Rout.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. However, the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation, officials said.
