Bhubaneswar: The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court has granted the Odisha Crime Branch two days’ remand of three accused in the high-profile Balianta Soumya Swain murder case to facilitate further investigation.
The accused taken on remand are Skylab Pati, Bismay Mohanty and Panchanan Badajena, along with another accused. They are among the 11 persons earlier arrested by the police and produced before the court.
The Crime Branch will question the three to gather additional evidence, identify and trace other accused who are still absconding, and verify the involvement of more individuals based on video footage related to the incident.
Investigators said the custodial interrogation is expected to help establish the sequence of events leading to the alleged assault in which Soumya Swain was beaten to death.
So far, 20 persons have been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
