Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today approved the tender for an in-stream storage structure across the river Tel, a tributary of the Mahanadi, near village Belgaon (Amath) in Kesinga block of Kalahandi district.
The project aims to conserve surface water by creating in-stream storage within the river. The collected water will be utilised during the lean season when there is a shortage of water. The execution cost of the project is ₹256,71,88,443, excluding GST.
The project is targeted to be completed within 36 calendar months. The structure will provide assured and sustainable domestic water supply to 41 villages in Saintala, Titilagarh, and Kesinga blocks. It will also support animal husbandry, fisheries, and other livelihood activities dependent on the water source.
Officials said the in-stream storage structure will enhance the ecological balance of the region and help replenish groundwater levels.
