Rain To Ease After Today As Low-Pressure System Weakens: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal has weakened but remains active over the eastern Madhya Pradesh  and adjacent area, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per IMD’s prediction, widespread rainfall activity over Odisha is expected to decrease significantly from today onwards. While isolated light to moderate rain may occur at some places, no large-scale rainfall is anticipated in the coming days. However, a fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over north Odisha around July 12, which may once again increase rainfall activity in the state.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a warning for intense rainfall in several parts of Odisha. Western and interior districts are likely to receive the heaviest showers.

Eight districts have been placed under a high alert with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. People in these areas have been advised to remain fully prepared. The districts are Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir and Nuapada.

Additionally, seven other districts have been issued yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places. Residents have been asked to stay alert and take necessary precautions. No specific weather warnings have been issued for the remaining districts of the state.

Officials have urged people living in vulnerable areas, especially near rivers, low-lying zones, and hilly terrains, to exercise caution and follow advisories issued by the district administration.
